HTML to PDF API
Turn an HTML document into a PDF. The HTML is read as a document: its headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and links become a laid-out PDF.
How it converts
No single engine converts this pair, so it runs in two steps:
- pandoc converts HTML to DOCX.
- LibreOffice converts DOCX to PDF.
- CSS layout is not applied, so this suits reports and articles written in HTML, not pixel-perfect copies of web pages.
- It runs in two steps: pandoc builds a Word document, then LibreOffice lays it out as a PDF.
- Images and stylesheets the file points to by URL or path are not fetched: the converter has no network access and reads only the file you send.
Questions
- Will the PDF look like the page in my browser?
- No. CSS layout is not applied: the PDF keeps the document’s structure and text, laid out as a plain document.
- Can it convert a URL?
- Not yet. Send the HTML file itself. Images and stylesheets the file points to by URL or path are not fetched: the converter has no network access and reads only the file you send.
