PDF to EPUB API
Turn a PDF into an EPUB whose text reflows to fit any screen, instead of a fixed page you have to zoom around.
How it converts
calibre converts PDF to EPUB.
- A PDF stores positioned text, not paragraphs, so calibre rebuilds paragraphs from it. Single-column text converts well; multi-column layouts, tables and forms lose their arrangement.
- Scanned PDFs are images of text and convert to almost nothing. OCR is not supported yet.
Questions
- Will the ebook keep the PDF’s layout?
- No, and that is the point of EPUB: the text reflows. A PDF stores positioned text, not paragraphs, so calibre rebuilds paragraphs from it. Single-column text converts well; multi-column layouts, tables and forms lose their arrangement.
- Can it convert a scanned PDF?
- Scanned PDFs are images of text and convert to almost nothing. OCR is not supported yet.
